Class Title, Description, and Cost:

- B 1. Beginning Machine Sampler with Lois Smith. This is the LAST opportunity to take this class! Lois Smith’s book Machine Quiltmaking will be used as the text for this class. Students will learn pattern drafting, invisible appliqué, perfect machine piecing, strip and log cabin piecing, smooth curve piecing, personalized heritage block designing and easy finishing by machine. Instructions for twenty different blocks will be given in all. Actual quilt construction will take place at home. Machines are not required in class.  Thurs: Sept 11, Oct 9, Nov 13, Dec 11; In 2009: Jan 8, Feb 12, Mar 12: 10 a.m. -  12 noon (Snow Date: April 2).   $125.

1A. Lois Smith Classes Show & Tell: If you have taken any class with Lois and finished your project, we want you! Bring your quilt and share with other students who would love to see what you have done!  You must register for this meeting, even though it is FREE. Fri: Sept 19: 7 - 9 p.m.

N - - 2. Rev. Best Bouquet of Flowers Block with Mary Lou McDonald.  Learn the tips, techniques and tricks for making this multi-piece Baltimore Album block. The design is from the Reverend Hezekiah Best quilt in the collection of the Lovely Lane Museum in Baltimore. If you have not previously purchased the Lovely Lane Museum 25 block pattern set (this is pattern block #8), you will need to buy the pattern for $5 when you sign up for the class. (The money for this pattern goes directly to the museum.) Thurs: Sept 11, Oct 9, Nov 6: 6 - 9 p.m. $55 (plus $5 for pattern).

N M B* 3. A Farmer’s Market with Judith McLean. Make an eye-catching quilt using your favorite novelty prints or color saturated batiks.  This is an easy-to-sew design that uses half-square triangle units for a sharp, graphic effect. Even beginners (with rotary skills) will have success!  Sat: Sept 20: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. $60.

N - B 4. Your First Baltimore Album Block with Mimi Dietrich. Learn the basics of appliqueing as you complete your first Baltimore-style block with Mimi. Classes will include step-by-step instructions for stitching stems, leaves, dimensional folded buds, and a Baltimore rose. Mimi will provide an enlarged pattern from her book Baltimore Basics. The last class is a demonstration of hand quilting and finishing your small quilted wall-hanging. Thurs: Sept 25, Oct 2, 16, Nov 6: 7 - 9 p.m. $60.

  - M B 5. A to Z Beginning Quilt Making with Ann Christy. Learn the basics of piecing, appliqué, and hand quilting. After completing this class you should be able to tackle almost anything. This class is designed to stop the wail of "Where do I start?"  Thurs: Sept 25, Oct 9, 23, 30, Nov 13, 20, Dec 4: 1 - 3 p.m. $80.

N M B* 7. X-Ploration-Stripe with Susan Grancio. Take a day to play with a terrific specialty ruler, the X-Blocktm. Choose a group of fabrics that make you smile and include one stripe. Make a quilt top that looks complex with these -- but is really super-easy to sew! Sat: Sept 27: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. $50.

MIMI DIETRICH’S YEAR LONG BALTIMORE ALBUM CLASS

Baltimore Album Appliqué with Mimi Dietrich. Here is your chance to fulfill the dream of making a Baltimore Album quilt! Mimi Dietrich will inspire you and guide you through the lessons in Elly Sienkiewicz's Baltimore Beauties and Beyond. Create a block each month for your very own album quilt. The first class will be a discussion about appropriate fabrics, quilt layout plans, and center/border ideas. There will be a celebration to view your finished blocks some time after the last class. Members who bring their twelve finished blocks to this show & tell will receive a $25 gift certificate for Seminole Sampler. Your 10% student discount will be in effect throughout the year.

  - - B 11. Fusing 101 with Susan Grancio. Everything you want to know about using fusibles in your quilting projects (or wished you knew when you tried to fuse!). You will use small amounts of a variety of fusible products with a range of designs to see for yourself how each one performs. Teacher will include information about using stabilizers and options for stitching the fusibles for permanence. Thur: Oct 2: 6 - 9 p.m. $32 (includes $8 kit fee).


  - M B 12. Triplets with Norma Campbell. Have you always wanted to make the “Trip Around The World” but it was just too big or too hard to complete? Well, here’s your chance to join Norma in making “Triplets” ... 3 mini versions of the Trip that are smaller, simpler and a lot easier to do. This class is available for beginners with rotary cutting skills and advanced quilters alike. Mon: Oct 6, 20: 6 - 9 p.m. $55.

N M - 13. It’s Not All About Circles! with Lois Smith. Add a WOW factor to your quilting! First speed piece a background filled with illumination, then add circular design elements and some origami shapes for double impact. Thur: Oct 9, Nov 13: 1 - 3:30 p.m. $60.

  N M - 14. Changing Seasons-Winter with Rose Hahn. Brr! Can’t you just feel the chill of a crisp winter day when you look at this realistic applique scene? Learn unit assembly with Stable Magic and glue stick as well as perspective, natural line, shading for effect, embellishing with fabric markers and free-form machine embroidery.  Sat: Oct 11, 25, Nov 8: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. $70.

  - M B* 15. Storm at Sea with Kim Jalette. Create a stunning quilt without cutting any triangles! The Square in a Square ruler allows you to make this traditional pattern more easily than you ever imagined.  Everyone loves this design with its optical illusions of curved piecing (no, there aren’t any curved seams!) Here is your chance to finally make your own Storm. This class is suitable for a confident beginner with rotary cutting experience. No experience with the Square in a Square ruler is needed.  Sat: Oct 11: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. $60.

  - M B 16. Beginning Machine Quilting with Ann Christy. Come learn the basics of machine quilting while trying out different kinds of batting, thread and techniques. Mon: Oct 20, 27: 6 - 9 p.m. $50.

N M B* 17. Christmas Tree Skirt with Maria O’Haver. Use a variety of beautiful holiday fabrics to make strip sets which are then re-cut with a wedge ruler to create the fan shaped tree skirt. Make an elegant addition for your holiday home decorations. Thur: Oct 23, 30:  6 - 9 p.m. $45.


N M - 18. The Spontaneous Sweatshirt Jacket with Didi Salvatierra.   Another Stylish Sweatshirt Jacket but with a random piecing formula.  Each jacket will be different in color and piecing options. Made entirely by machine, this project is designed for the intermediate sewing student. Sat: Oct 25, Nov 1: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. $65.


N M - 19. The Professional Tote with Maria O’Haver. This is one of the most handy, beautiful bag patterns available -- multiple zippers, pockets and compartments make this a great bag! Strong enough to carry a heavy load and expertly constructed with Maria’s step-by-step help -- this is an easy bag to make.  Sat: Nov 1: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. $35.

  - M - 20. Snails Trail with Kim Jalette. This traditional pattern is easily pieced using the Square in a Square ruler. Let the SnS ruler do the work for you as you cut only straight-of-grain strips.  No triangles are cut and pieced in this method! It’s your choice whether to make it scrappy or not.  Sat: Nov 8: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. $60.

  - - B 21. Hand Quilting with Ann Christy.  Since it is not a quilt until it is quilted, come and learn techniques for hand quilting and finishing your masterpiece. Mon: Nov 10: 6 - 9 p.m. $35 (includes $7.50 kit fee).

N M B* 22. Pineapple Punch with Didi Salvatierra. The traditional pineapple quilt block pattern (but with easier-to-construct techniques) offers fun for color play! Using a foundation system, plenty of high contrast fabrics and some easy strip cutting -- you won’t be able to stop with just one! This is a machine class for confident beginners and beyond. Sat: Nov 15: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. $55 (includes $5 pattern fee).

- M B 9. Beginning Machine Quilting with Ann Christy. Come learn the basics of machine quilting while trying out different kinds of battings, threads and techniques. Mon: Aug 11, 18: 6 - 9 p.m. $60 (includes $7.50 kit fee).


- M - 10. Dresden Mania with Dottie Moreland. Take a traditional quilt block pattern and give it an updated look with the fabrics you choose. All the ‘plates’ are made from the same medium-to-large scale print. Construction is quick and simple with rotary cutting and machine piecing shortcuts. Give your quilt a traditional or contemporary look with setting choices. Every plate is a surprise! Sat: Aug 16: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. $70.

N M - 11. A Quilter’s Diary with Mimi Dietrich. Stitch the story of your life by starting your own Quilter’s Diary. Mimi will help you choose blocks that tell your story, plan your own Diary, and show you how to cut and organize your blocks. This full day workshop includes sewing hand applique blocks. Sat: Aug 23: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. $60.
