****** DOG DAYS OF SUMMER?? *******
I remember my Gran'pa Hampton telling me as a small girlie about August being the Dog Days of summer -- he said it was because of the star Sirius (the hunting dog of Orion) and its influence. Of course, we know now that's not so -- but it seemed so romantic to me as a child (of course, I did not know _that_ word, yet:). The idea of the stars affecting life here on our planet seemed so exotic, it made me smile even then. :) NOW my favorite stars are fabric designers (chuckle!).
Those of you who follow our shop blog know that we have gotten oodles of star-worthy bolts of fabric this summer. One thing that regularly happens here at Seminole every August
is a 'free pass' time for our customers who collect Punch Cards.
Through the 15th of this month, bring in your multiple green (or red) punch cards and get them combined -- even trade them in! :)
Another thing that happens regularly, every August, is the Fall issue of our newsletter. Robbyn and our staff has been going slightly nuts chasing down all the details for four months of classes, sales and events. You can download a pdf file of the newsletter (PUT LINK HERE) or go to our web site to browse through the offerings.
There are two classes I want to especially draw to your attention -- the first is Lois Smith's Beginning Machine Sampler class. Many of you have taken this class and are happy students of Lois' methods. This fall will be the LAST time that Lois teaches her signature class -- if you know anyone who should take it, this is the time!! :) The second class to note is Mimi Dietrich's Year-Long Baltimore Album Class. A new series will start in September -- if you, or anyone you know, want to learn Baltimore style applique, pay attention. :) Mimi also has a new, shorter class for those of you who'd like to sample Baltimore style applique without taking an entire year's course ... or maybe you are so new to applique itself you are unsure about committing.
Your First Baltimore Album block is guaranteed to get your fingers 'wet' with local, historical style. :)
